Custom Engagement Ring for a Camp Pendleton Service Member — Alvaro's Story

Some of the most meaningful pieces we build never start with a catalog page — they start with a conversation. That's exactly how this one began, when Alvaro, a military service member stationed at Camp Pendleton, messaged me on Instagram looking for a custom setting that would mean something beyond just a beautiful ring.

I'm honored to share how it came together — and even more honored that he took the time to tell us what he thought of the finished piece.

The Request

Looking for a mounting for his big (over 5ct lab grown diamond). Simple, classic and showcasing the diamond in 14kt white gold. We had the size and we knew that a stone this large needs the proper mounting. The stone would need to be scanned to we could get a perfect fit. We found the design he liked after several options and got the ball rolling. He needed it within about one month so a local manufacturing house was the right choice. And to finish it off he decided on the perfect engraving for the inside of the band.

Designing It Together

Scanning the stone was a must and making sure the setting had enough metal to support the large center and for the V tips to fit the tips of diamond perfectly. Claw prongs for the sides and v tip prong work on the tips to protect the tips of the marquise cut. Larger diamonds are harder to work with especially fancy cuts. You can't just order a blank and modify the setting this could lead to issues down the road. The setting came out durable and supporting the center without too much bulk.
